Teddy Bear Charging Chasseur
Based on Theodore Gericault's "The Charging Chasseur," which shows an officer of Napoleon’s cavalry (the dramatic diagonal composition references David’s famous Napoleon Crossing the Alps), charging into battle. His horse is rearing for fear of the enemy ahead, but the officer is unfazed, and instead looks behind to the soldiers following him. Gericault’s painting is considered a masterpiece of French romanticism, and it’s certainly a striking piece of propaganda.
In this version, the horse is considerably happier, but the officer is equally fearless.
