Made after Goya's Third of May 1808. After invading Spain, Napoleon announced that the Spanish royal family would be removed, and that Spain would be ruled by his brother. The people of Madrid revolted (Goya made another painting, The Second of May 1808, showing French cavalry charging rebel soldiers), and the following day, the French rounded up and executed hundreds of people.

The print is an edition of 100 and is 11.5"x9" giclée on archival 300gsm hot press paper.
